Is She Back?

For the last 2 nights, Cali has been acting shy. Usually (prior to 2 nights ago), Cali is in the midst of whatever is going on at the house, whether it's cooking, watching TV, petting Pellet, whatever. For the past 2 nights ago, we have found her doing this:

If we'd work really hard at it, we could get her to come out from these corners. When she did, she'd be happy, wagging her tail and everything. She has been eating as normal and playing outside.
So for a slight moment I wishfully thought: maybe since she's approaching 2 years old, her puppyness has worn off and this is her real personality. Then, as we talked about it and thought about it and I spoke with a friend who also has 2 dogs, we figured out that more than likely she and Pellet have gotten into it and she's clearly been shown her boundaries.
Tonight she is finally starting to incorporate herself into the family and stopped being much of a loner - but she's sure keeping her distance from Pellet. What's Pellet doing? He's cool as ever, laying by his cage.
Go figure.

To My Surprise

I got home at about 5:30pm and let the dogs out. Usually, they go outside, do their business and come right in - they about tear down the doors to come back inside.

Today though, at around 6:15pm I realized that they were still outside and extremely quiet. I was certain that I'd call them and they'd come back covered in mud (at least Cali would be covered in mud, Pellet would come along looking clueless). I grabbed the camera (just in case I was about to experience a funny scene) and looked out the window, to my surprise, I found this:

She was peacefully looking out at the trees and the street. Pellet was laying over by the front patio. I was pleasantly surprised.

One Day

On day, I am certain, Norm and I will live beachfront - I don't know if it will be full time or part time or a vacation home or retirement home, we have to figure those details out.

All I know is that the ocean and the beach provide a tranquility and peace of mind that is priceless. I don't think it is possible to ever be tired of spending too much time seaside.

Be Kind Please Rewind

I am sure there are many folks out there waiting for the invention of the rewind button to rewind life. It's amazing how things can change instantly, in a matter of seconds. When these things happen, we look back and say: "I should've done this differently" or "I should've worn different pair of shoes" or "I should've stayed home"

On our second night at the beach, my mom tripped and fell. She tripped over her own feet, fell on the car and fractured her right arm/shoulder.

I'd love to be able to rewind that night and make one tiny different decision. That'd be to not leave the bungalow. But... we wanted to go get bread at the grocery store, and we wanted to take a stroll down the fancy shops further south, so off we went.

Things would be so different now if I could rewind... not only would the beach trip not have been cut short, but I wouldn't be leaving her here in Lima by herself unable to do many many things for about 3 weeks.

I left the camera behind while I sat under one of those umbrellas today... I won't be doing that tomorrow!

If These Walls Could Speak

Who says you can't have fun while sorting through books, papers, photographs, knick knacks, clothes and furniture in the process of disassembling a house which walls have been witnesses to all of life's stages as well as life's struggles, uncertainties, joys and celebrations?
